Small, light and thin
In 1978, the development of R-core, non-cut winded core with circular cross section, was successfully completed and mass production was stated for the first time in the world. Patent of it was registered in many countries.

Since then, small and high performance R-core transformer has been adopted to audio devices, OA machines, communication devices and medical instruments as an idealistic power source by many large assembly makers. The number of users is still increasing rapidly. As it satisfies safety standard of many countries, R-core transformer is the best selection for a transformer used in the product intended to put in the worldwide market.

The leakage flux (flux leaked out of transformer) of R-core transformer is less than 1/10 of EI transformer. The structure designed and manufactured using KITAMURA's knowledge and skill confines flux generated at both of right and left coils into the iron core and does not allow the flux to come out. As R-core does not have any cutting face, the magnetic resistance won't appear, then the characteristic of silicon steel board can be utilized to the full. Its circular cross section and the shape of core eliminate the concentration of magnetism at point angles. Therefor placing any leakage protection means at assembly process is not required. Adopting R-core transformer is effective not only in audio equipment but also in visual equipment to prevent flickering and tremor of a screen, in medical equipment and in robot to prevent malfunctions.

R-core transformer is installed in various kinds of equipment and more than 30 million systems have been exported. The separate type bobbin is used to satisfy safety standards on spatial creeping distance, insulation and proof pressure, of many countries. As we have the family corresponding to UL1411, customers can reduce time and cost for applying for UL and CSA largely. And more we have acquired other safety standard such as electrical appliances safety standard, IEC and EN standard.

R-core transformer comprises 2 coils. The left drawing shows a cross section of one coil. From the center, core (silicon steal), first bobbin (plastic), first coil (copper), second bobbin (plastic), second coil (copper). The insulation structure is formed with laminating metal and plastic alternately.

As R-core transformer can stand overload fluctuation, stability and reliability of equipment are increased. Though small and light, R-core transformer has a characteristic that it is an internal iron type and having larger surface area. As the heat accumulated in an instant at overload is radiated immediately, R-core transformer can stand frequent overload. And as it has good response to momentary large current, it shows great characteristic when used in audio equipment.

The heat generation caused by iron loss in R-core transformer is less than 1/2 compared with that in EI transformer. To attain this characteristic, high-grade silicon steal board made by SHINN-NITTETSU is used for the core of R-core transformer. As high- B material whose iron loss is small is used and R-core does not have any cutting faces, R-core transformer is a transformer that requires little holding power and produces very little noise.
The structure of R-core transformer is very simple and high-grade materials are used. As non-cut winding iron core is applied, there is no magnetic gap. This is the low power consumption transformer that has few iron loss, because of having circular cross section iron core, generates little magnetization current and little heat. This character is effective at energy saving in the stand-by state.

R-core transformer is the combination of winding iron core and bobbin winding, and it has a very simple structure. As assembling of iron core is not required, hard iron (core) won't hart soft copper (winding). And also, a bobbin decides the space for winding, in house developed winding machine realized well- regulated winding. In house developed manufacturing facility produces transformers having almost same characteristics, high quality and high- reliability. The characteristics of small and light increase the flexibility of installing place. These characteristics, with small heat generation and minimized leakage, will reduce the cost and space for heat radiation measures and magnetism proof measures, then R-core transformer is effective for total cost down.

As minute signals are used in the amplifier circuit, a leakage flux from power transformer degenerates quality of picture and sound, as a harmful noise. Power amplifier, pre-main amplifier, AV amplifier

Power transformer for amplifiers has to have high performance to correspond to requirement of amplified power supply. However, leakage flux becomes noise source and degenerates sound quality when large current is passed. In R-core transformer, coil is wound tightly on a non-cot core with circular cross section, uniform fluxes are formed and minimized leakage is realized. The shape of core realizes quicker heat radiation compared with accumulation of heat at overload. This transformer can handle frequent overloads.
